Collector’s Loft by UNStudio

September 8th, 2010

The design of the loft in downtown Manhattan mediates between art gallery and living space. The existing loft space was characterized by challenging proportions: the space is long and wide, but also rather low. Gently flowing curved walls were introduced to virtually divide the main space into proportionally balanced spaces. This created zones of comfortable proportions for domestic use, while simultaneously generating a large amount of wall space for the display of art. The meandering walls frame an open a space that privileges long perspectives, with more sheltered corners and niches nestled in the curves. Read more…

Add a Rustic Touch with Barn-style Cage Lights

September 7th, 2010

The fixtures are the focus of every bathroom. When the shower, faucet, sink and lighting are all in place, then the bathroom is complete. But probably the most important aspect of this room is the lighting, because without quality lighting, you’re not going to enjoy the bathroom all that much.

For sleek, simplistic bathrooms with above-counter sinks and neutral marble subway tiles, a bright idea is to add barn-style cage lights for a rustic look. These Barn Wall Lights are just one option. These sconces have a 16” warehouse shade and a 100W frosted glass bulb with a wire gaurd.

These lights are energy efficient, and they have a gooseneck design, which will draw attention to the sink, counter and mirror area.

Woodland Creature Dishware – James Ward Draws and Paints his Plates With Intimidating Animals (GALLERY)

September 4th, 2010

James Ward is an artist who has taken his talents in drawing and painting and directed them towards the kitchen cupboard. His hand-painted and drawn plates feature furry woodland creatures and often hilarious statements.

Who wouldn’t want a plate with a bear on it that says “Sandwich Defender”? The slogans and animals are cute, but what really gets me about James Ward’s plates is the quality of the work. I never thought that a plate could make such a good canvas for both drawing and painting. Prove me wrong James Ward. Prove me wrong.
