Tips On Installing Granite Counter Tops
March 29th, 2011 | by admin |Did you know that you could save about 20% of the cost of granite if you installed it yourself? This is something that many people catch onto and because of that they attempt to install the granite themselves but if you don’t know what you are doing then it can be a big mess and end up costing you a lot of money. My suggestion is to first read through these tips on installing granite counter tops and if you still don’t think you can install the counter tops yourself then you should hire a professional to do it for you.
Tips on installing granite counter tops
Don’t force the installation – Installing a counter top can be a tough job and the reason it is is simply because the measurements are not always right. If you have a slab of granite that is not fitting perfectly then you should make sure you don’t force the installation. The reason why you never want to force the installation is because the slab could crack if you put too much pressure on the piece.
Never lay on a corner – Did you know that if you hit granite in the middle someplace it won’t crack but if you hit the corner the entire piece could shatter? This is something that doesn’t make sense to most people but trust me, don’t lay the granite slab on a corner because it could break and even though it is tougher in the middle you should still never hit it.
Cut at 45 degree angles – If you have ever seen granite or any type of counter top being installed then you might have noticed that the installers will cut the connecting sections at 45 degree angles and the reason they do this is to get a better seal and a smoother look. What most people don’t realize is when a slab is cut at a right angle the cut will be seen as opposed to when it is done at a 45 degree angle.
Like I said earlier it is better to hire a professional than to try the installation yourself and fail. Just remember, you are the best judge of your own skills so if you don’t think you can do it then believe in yourself.
